Accessibility

Myzo, LLC ("Myzo") designs both Myzo Parents and Myzo Kids to be usable by families with a wide range of visual, motor, and cognitive needs. This page describes the accessibility features the current apps support, plus what we're working on next.

If you rely on an accessibility feature and something isn't working for you, please email support@getmyzo.com. We treat accessibility bugs the same as any other bug — they get triaged and fixed.

Supported features

VoiceOver

Every interactive element in both apps carries an accessibility label, role, and (where relevant) state. Tapping through the interface with VoiceOver reads the same information a sighted user sees — button purposes, task titles, progress, XP earned, and timer state are all announced.

Voice Control

Because the apps ship complete VoiceOver labeling, iOS Voice Control works automatically. You can activate any button, task card, or picker by saying its label.

Dynamic Type (Larger Text)

Both apps respect the system Dynamic Type setting. Body copy, task titles, dashboard cards, timer numerals, and settings labels scale from the Extra Small end all the way through the accessibility sizes. Layout wraps rather than clipping.

Sufficient contrast

The Myzo color system is built around WCAG AA-level contrast for body text (at least 4.5:1) and interactive controls (at least 3:1). When the system Increase Contrast setting is on, the kids app additionally lifts secondary text opacity so muted labels stay readable.

Differentiate without color alone

Task status, section headings, achievement categories, and reward states never rely on color as the only cue. Every color-coded chip carries a text label ("Completed", "Past Due", "Ready to Turn In"), every subject icon includes a distinct shape as well as a distinct hue, and every warning surface pairs its color with an icon and message.

Reduced haptics

Haptic feedback (used sparingly — task completion, block-end, achievement unlock) respects the system's per-app haptic settings. If you turn haptics off system-wide, Myzo stops firing them.

No time pressure outside the timer

The apps have exactly one time-limited surface — the focus timer, which is a 25-minute focus block by design. Every other interaction (adding a task, entering a PIN, reviewing progress, redeeming a reward) has no time limit and can be paused or resumed indefinitely.

PIN-only authentication for children

Myzo Kids does not require biometric authentication. A four-digit PIN, chosen by the parent at pairing, is the only sign-in method. Kids who can't or don't want to use Face ID / Touch ID are supported by design.

Kid-first layouts

The Myzo Kids interface uses large tap targets (all buttons are at least 44×44 pt, per Apple's Human Interface Guidelines), high-contrast type on solid backgrounds, and short reading passages. It is designed to be usable by children with ADHD, reading difficulties, and motor coordination differences.

Working on next

  • Reduce Motion. We currently detect the system Reduce Motion setting but do not yet gate the celebration animations (confetti burst, XP counter tween, drawer stretch) behind it. This work is planned for a near-term update.
  • Dark Interface. Both apps ship with the warm earthy Myzo palette only. A dedicated dark mode is on the post-launch roadmap.
  • Screen-reader timer announcements. The focus timer currently signals block-end and break-end with audio and haptics; screen-reader-friendly countdown announcements at set intervals (10 min, 5 min, 1 min) are planned.
  • Captions. The apps have no spoken video or audio content today, so captions aren't applicable. If we add narrated content in the future, captions will ship with it.

Feedback

Accessibility feedback goes to support@getmyzo.com. If your feedback is about a barrier that's blocking you from using the app right now, tell us — we'll respond within one business day and treat the fix as a priority.
