Rewards + XP
How XP is earned in Myzo, how achievements work, and how you can attach real-world rewards to XP milestones.
Updated 2026-09-23
Myzo runs on XP. Every focused minute, every completed task, every achievement adds points to your kid's total. XP is what makes the app feel like a game and the work feel worth doing. This page covers how XP is earned, how achievements work, and how you can turn XP into real-world rewards your kid actually cares about.
How XP is earned
Kids earn XP from four sources:
- Focus blocks — 10 XP per completed 25-minute block, partial credit for shorter blocks.
- Task completions — a bonus when a task is marked done, sized by task type (bigger for tests and projects, smaller for short homework).
- Achievements — one-time and repeatable badges (see below).
- Streaks — a daily bonus for running at least one focus block every day. The bonus grows with streak length up to a cap.
XP only ever goes up. Myzo never docks points — this is a growth system, not a discipline system.
Achievements
Achievements are milestone badges, split into two lanes so kids get credit for both halves of the "did the work / handed it in" loop:
- Worked-Through lane — fires when the kid completes the timer sessions on a task. Names to watch for: Task Crusher, Triple Threat, Getting Things Done, Double Digits, Assignment Ace, Task Titan, Fifty Tasks, Task Legend, Century Task Club, Task Elite, Task Master. Description on each is "Worked through N tasks."
- Turn-In lane — fires only when the kid actually submits work (marks Ready to Turn In, or you grade it). Names: First Turn-In, Hand It In (5), Reliable (10), Quarter Century (25), Fifty & Faithful (50), Century Turn-Ins (100).
The distinction matters because a kid can grind through the work but never turn it in — the Turn-In lane rewards the second half so it doesn't become invisible.
Your kid sees an achievement popup the moment they earn one, with a short animation. The popup blurs the surface behind it (so the XP counter really pops) and layers above the guided tour ring on first-run so the "first block done" celebration isn't hidden by the tutorial. The full list lives on their dashboard under Achievements. On your side, achievements roll up into the weekly summary email so you know what your kid is hitting.
Streaks
A streak is a run of consecutive days with at least one completed focus block. Streaks reset if a day is skipped — no partial credit. Kids see their current streak in the header of their dashboard; you see it in the header of yours.
Setting up rewards
The XP-to-reward conversion is entirely up to you. Myzo doesn't ship with any pre-set rewards — you pick what matters in your family. Common examples:
- 100 XP = 15 minutes of screen time.
- 250 XP = ice cream after dinner.
- 500 XP = pick the family movie on Friday.
- 1,000 XP = a small toy or a trip somewhere they've been asking to go.
Rewards are set per child, from that child's dashboard:
In Myzo Parents, tap the child you're setting rewards up for.
Scroll to the rewards row. The first card is Create New Reward — tap it.
Pick a category, give the reward a name, and set its XP cost.
Decide whether to turn on Can be earned again (see below), then tap Create.
Your kid will see the reward appear on their Rewards screen the next time their app syncs.
To change a reward later, tap its card on the same row — the same form opens, including the repeat toggle, so you can switch an existing reward over at any point.
One-time vs repeating rewards
Every reward has a Can be earned again toggle.
- Off (the default) — the reward is used up. Once you approve the redemption, it leaves the rewards row and won't be offered again. Good for one-off things: a specific outing, a particular toy.
- On — the reward stays available. Approving a redemption leaves a greyed-out card showing what was just earned and a fresh one your kid can save toward again. Good for recurring things: screen time, picking the movie.
Redeeming a reward
When your kid has enough XP for a reward, they tap it on their Rewards screen and confirm. Their XP total drops by the reward cost, and you get a notification on your side: "Emma redeemed: 15 min screen time (100 XP)". It's then on you to actually deliver the reward.
Until you approve it, the reward shows a REQUESTED tag on both your row and theirs. Once approved, the card greys out, shows REDEEMED, and moves to the end of the row — so what's still available stays at the front where you'll look first.
Greyed cards stay on the row for a day, then move to Past Rewards.
Past Rewards
At the end of the rewards row is a View Past Rewards card. It opens the full history for that child: every reward they've redeemed and had approved, newest first, with the date.
Your kid has the same screen in their own app, reached the same way. They asked for it — knowing what's already been claimed helps them decide what to save toward next.
Turning off XP
Some families prefer a lower-key setup. If you'd rather not gamify the work at all, you can hide XP totals from your kid entirely: Settings → Display → Hide XP counters. The app still tracks focus time and tasks, but the XP counter, achievements, and streaks are hidden on the kid's screens.
Score visibility
By default, kids can't see each other's XP or badges — Myzo doesn't have any child-to-child social features and never will. Score visibility is per-child and off by default. If you're using Myzo with multiple kids and want to allow them to see each other's totals for a friendly rivalry, you can toggle it on per child in Settings → Kids → [name] → Score visibility.
