Managing tasks
How tasks are created, edited, and finished in Myzo — the full lifecycle from a kid's typing 'Math Chapter 3' through your seeing the graded score.
Updated 2026-09-07
Tasks are the core unit of Myzo. Every assignment your kid works on lives as a task, and every task walks through the same lifecycle: it's created, it appears on the dashboard, it gets worked on in focus sessions, it's turned in, and (for tests + quizzes) a grade eventually lands on it. This page walks through each stage from your side.
Who creates tasks
Your kid does. Myzo is deliberately built so tasks originate on the kid's side — they type in what they're working on, pick a subject and task type, set the due date. This puts them in the driver's seat of their own workload, which is where the executive-function benefit comes from over the long run.
From your side you can see every task in real time, edit any of them, and delete or restore them if needed. But adding tasks for your kid would defeat the point of the app.
The task-creation flow
When your kid taps Add Task on their Today dashboard, they walk through six fields:
Name — what they're calling this assignment. "Math Chapter 3" or "History essay draft."
Subject — Math, English, Science, History, or Other. Picking Other reveals a Class field to the right of the dropdown (greyed out until Other is selected) where the kid types their own class name — "Spanish", "Art", "Robotics". The task chip displays only the class name (no "Other-" prefix). Class names are shared with the Flashcards subject picker per kid, so a class added on one side shows up on the other.
Type — homework, studying, reading, quiz prep, test prep, or project. Myzo uses this to (a) suggest how many focus blocks the task should take, (b) decide whether to auto-track the grade, and (c) whether Flash Cards can be attached.
Due date — when the assignment is due. Myzo will spread work across the days between now and then.
Work days — which specific days the kid plans to work on this task. Defaults to every day between now and the due date, but they can uncheck days they know they're busy.
Notes (optional) — anything they want to remember about the task or a specific work day.
Once they hit Save, the task appears on their Today dashboard under the appropriate section, and you see it appear in your dashboard in real time.
Task sections on the dashboard
Every task lives in one of six sections, and moves between them automatically as its state changes:
- Next Session — the immediate next thing the kid should work on.
- Incomplete — active tasks with work still to do.
- Ready to Turn In — completed on the kid's side, waiting for them to hand it in at school.
- Past Due — the due date has passed and the task isn't done.
- Completed — done + turned in.
- Deleted — soft-deleted. Kids can restore from here within 30 days.
You see the exact same sections in the same order on your parent dashboard.
Editing a task
Both you and your kid can edit any task at any time. Tap the task card to expand it, then tap Edit. Every field is editable — name, subject, type, due date, work days, notes.
Deleting + restoring
Deleting a task doesn't wipe it — it's soft-deleted and can be restored from the Deleted section for 30 days. After 30 days it's purged from the database entirely (per our privacy commitment to hold kids' data only as long as necessary).
Recurring tasks
For assignments that repeat weekly — piano practice, a nightly reading log — flip the Make recurring toggle when creating the task. The task will regenerate on the same weekdays until the due date you set. Changing the recurring template edits every future occurrence but leaves past occurrences alone.
Grades
When your kid finishes a test prep or quiz prep task and marks it Ready to Turn In, Myzo prompts them to enter the grade once they receive it. Grades feed into the Progress screen (subject averages, trend over time) and roll up into your parent-side reports.
For other task types (homework, projects, etc.), grade tracking is opt-in — you set which types are tracked during onboarding, and can change that any time in Settings → Grade Tracking.
What's next
- Focus sessions — how the 25-minute focus block works and what happens when a kid runs one.
- Rewards + XP — how tasks earn XP and how you set up rewards.
- Grades + progress — reading the Progress screen and your parent-side subject reports.
